Research Task By Daisy Hook - The silence of the lambs

the silence of the lambs is an example of a thriller, and i shall be using this example.

we are first approached with the question where are we placed? this is done through use of camerawork

after this shot has been running for a few seconds we then are shown where we are from text on the screen.

our next question is who is she?

and what is she doing? we can tell when she gets up the hill from using a rope of some sort that she is most probably training, another clue that provides a back up that she is training or exercising is her costume, shes wearing sports gear, tracksuit bottoms, trainers and a sweatshirt- the thing most often worn when you exercise.
a few seconds on in the film we hear a man call out "Stirling" off screen and we see the woman stop and turn around to see the man who is now on screen

he then explains to her that "Crawford wants to see you in his office" she agrees jogs to see him and then the shot tracks in towards the man to reveal that his hat reads "FBI", we can now assume that she works for the FBI

we see her run into some sort of training ground

for what we don't know.

these first few minutes give us hardly any information at all, all we know so far is that there is a  woman who works for the FBI, who's first or last name is Sterling and she needs to see Crawford in his office.
we do not yet know whether she is the protagonist or the antagonist.

  1. Rather brief Daisy? How do these scenes communicate meaning to the audience? Far more analysis needed
